Hello…..
let me introduce myself and tell you about my problem…. i am a 21-year-old girl with normal body shape only….. but my decisive problem is fat is storing at the sides of my belly…..It is a major problem for me…. I think the main causative of this may be sitting for long hours in front of computer and working……. please help me…….
Hi Pratyusha, first up, thanks so much for your feedback.
A regular workout program and diet modification will definitely make a difference. Have you read through VFT’s fat loss, workout and six pack abs articles?
I hate how complicated everything seems. Hormones, Carbs, protiens, fats, leptin, cortisol, metabolism type, etc… It drives me mad! I can’t keep up. I don’t know how to know for sure what I should eat, how I should exercise or what Lean muscle/body fat goals to shoot for to achieve the look I want. I just want to see my abs and loose the extra fat around my triceps, under arms and outer pecs. Does everybody with lean bodies and defined abs have to work this hard?!
I totally hear ya, Triche!
Folk that are in great shape do work hard at it. But in saying that, they don’t always know the in’s and out’s of diets etc.
There are three points to make here before I go any further:
1. Because there are so many programs out there available, folk launching new programs have to find a new concept or something that takes folk’s interest that hasn’t really been marketed before. To make their product stand out from the rest. Often the “concept” is important and does and can make a big difference in your efforts. However it does start to get confusing when there are so many fitness gurus marketing their programs and launching new programs educating folk on these concepts leading up to their launches (or as part of their launch).
2. Also things are changing. Even though everyone wants to know the secret or the truth on how to get into shape. Folk are becoming more savvy with their education on it as well. They want to know the finer details. And some folk feel it’s a bit of an insult to their intelligence just expecting them to follow something without being educated about it at the same time eg… all the why’s and how’s. So fitness program owners have to take that into consideration now as well.
However there’s a difference between educating folk and ramming gimmicks down their throats.
3. I genuinely feel sorry for folk. THERE’S SOOOOOOOOOO much stuff out there. And now that folk have bought out so many different types of workouts and eating plans and so forth everytime something new comes out people think what they are currently doing — even if they haven’t really given it a shot — may not be good enough.
I personally think that we need to get down to the basics. Still teaching folk along the way, but without making them feel like they’re failing before they even start because they’re not purchasing all these new programs that are coming out. I have to admit some of the free reports and stuff are great that come along with some of the new products. I share them with my list, if I’ve read them and think they could be helpful to them. Education is important… but we want health and fitness to be fun too. Not stressful. I admit there are some new programs that I think are great. But how do others really know what’s worth it or not. Or if they can trust that it’s not just a re-hash of something else they’ve just bought. They don’t… and that’s frustrating for them.
Back to folk that get into shape. There are lots of concepts that have been around for years. Folk have been using them successfully. However they just haven’t been marketed as such until these last couple of years.
Having a great program and eating plan is terrific – but unless you’re consistent with your efforts then the results will feel like they’re never going to come along.
I’ve trained folk myself, who didn’t want to know the complicated stuff. They just kept to their eating plan, kept with their training, we tweaked it and upgraded it along the way and they got great results. Sure, along the way they’d learn new things, but the goal was to try and prevent it from getting too overwhelming. Because once something becomes too overwhelming then folk tend not to even want to start it. Our brains are on overload these days as it is. If you don’t take someone by the hand and lead them through it in a simple to follow manner (whether it be in a book or one to one program) then they’ll often give up before they start.
There’s are lots of folk out there all feeling the same as you do, Triche. So don’t feel like it’s only you.
Sure it’s not easy to get into shape — it doesn’t fall in your lap. But it doesn’t have to be so complicated either that you feel like you’re constantly failing.
Good on you, Triche, for taking the time to vent. It’s great.
The more folk that get in there and state their concerns and frustrations the better.
Well done!
Thanks for your response, I feel better already and will take your advice on board!!
Hey Gemma
No problems… thank you…. we really appreciate your valued opinion.
I’m with Tom, I lost a lot of weight and exercised but shifting the love handles and cellulite, though I have tried, hasn’t happened. Ive had to put weight back on as I was becoming underweight to try and shift the love handles! It’s so annoying seeing images of perfect women who don’t have any love handles and I’m not much bigger than They are. I looked Ill and gaunt in the face when I lost too much weight but wonder how super skinny celebrities always look so well! Skinny seems to suit them! I also dread going to the gym, although I have recently joined, because 95% of gym members seem to already be in perfectly good shape and I find it off putting.:) rant over for now
Hey Gemma
Focusing on fat loss and increasing lean muscle – rather than weight loss – is best. And clean eating too. Don’t worry about what the stupid scales say.
Celebrities have so much pressure on them to be slim – which is crazy. Their diets / calorie intake is so low it’s ridiculous. Many celebs are under contract to stay under a certain weight. Which is terrible. And many of them have just as many insecurities as we do… they’re just good at “appearing” like their confident.
The concept of fitness should be about looking and feeling healthy — not looking like someone’s washed up, skinny and worn out – with bones sticking out everywhere. You can’t tell me reducing calorie intake like this for months on end to unhealthy levels is going to benefit folk long term.
Celebs are under pressure to stay skinny, so they get skinny and look gaunt then have to fill their faces with “fillers” to plump up their faces to counteract that… so they look younger. What the heck?
And then… Don’t forget, for most celebs you only seem them on special occasions (awards nights, promos, photo shoots etc) they diet and train their butts off for these things. They don’t look like that all the time. Between that and the “editing” of photos, plus body doubles… can you really believe anything these days?
Focus on what you want and your body – Hollywood is la la land. It’s not what the average person represents.
Don’t worry what other folk at the gym look like either – although that’s easier to say than do. Start with your own goals in realistic increments and do it bit by bit. Some folk that go to the gym have been training for years and years – so they’ve put in the hard yards of training and clean eating. And there are others that cheat with other options to help get them into shape.
Everyone is different – so you need to make your goals and your program about you – not about what anyone else wants or looks like.
By the way — you don’t need to go to the gym to get into shape anyway… you’ll be surprised the amazing results you can get just from training at home with a few basics.
Thanks for the rant… I love it that you’ve taken the time to comment and have your say! Good on you, Gemma! Awesome job!
Hey Tracy
Good points you’ve made there…
Some folk abuse their mail lists pumping out promos up to 3-4 times per week. Which gets confusing for folk on the list because they buy one thing and think well maybe I need the next product… then the next – sometimes without trying any of the products they’ve originally purchased because they think the next thing being promoted might be better. It becomes too overwhelming for them.
I am sick of investing in a fitness program or book on-line, only to be bombarded from the person I bought it from with dozens of other “offers”! It makes me believe that they duped me and they have no confidence in the program they’ve already offered me!
I am tired of working out faithfully every week and seeing little results!
I hate all the quick fix miracles being offered today, making people think that weight loss and fitness is just a matter of buying a product. It takes a lot of work and dedication to become fit and healthy, and people shouldn’t be allowed to give people the impression that if they take a pill, everything will fall into place for them.
Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of venting my frustrations. Here is my pet peeve. It is so unfair that we lose body fat everywhere except where we want to. That one spot that we all have that just hangs on until the bitter end. I am like most guys and collect fat around my middle. “Spare tire” and love handles never seem to lose a millimeter, but any fat regained winds up right on the belly where it remains unresponsive to the next weight loss effort. It’s like once the fat arrives at this area, it is immune to any diet or exercise, so it just jiggles merrily along knowing it is safe. LOL
No problems, Tom!
Love the way you describe body fat..
Good on you for commenting — you rock!
