MANDY VFT
Hi, everyone, it’s Mandy here from Virtual Fitness Trainer, and I’m here today with Joey Atlas, lower body fitness guru and creator of the ultimate leg, butt, hip, and thigh makeover.
JOEY
That’s good. Hello, everybody.
JOEY
All right, so on that note, a lot of work has gone into this already. We’ve spent hours and hours combined putting together the outline and going back and forth with phone calls and emails about putting this event together and it’s going to be very valuable and you’re going to want to hang out until the very end to get every bit of information that we’re going to share with you. So I’m honored and very happy to be on this and I’m glad Mandy selected me to be participating in this training event.
MANDY
Awesome, and I’m glad that you’ve allowed us to spend some time with you today, Joey.
JOEY
Thank you. Thank you. My total pleasure. This is what I love doing and I know we have some very valuable things to share with everybody who’s listening and it’s going to help them in every possible way to get every bit of information we share on this training event with them.
MANDY
So everyone who’s on the call today, if you haven’t realized this already. This is going to be serious stuff today, and you know, we’re absolutely over the moon that we’ve been able to set up this time for this valuable webinar to help many of you cut through the crap and confusion of transforming your lower body, and I’m sure, you know, Joey finds that he’s in the same situation as this and we get mountains of emails and requests at VFT from women, especially that are flat-out confused and frustrated about what they should do or shouldn’t do to make over their lower bodies and we’ve actually based this interview today with Joey around that so we can really get down to the nitty-gritty of this topic and get those questions answered for you.
In today’s webinar, we’re going to discuss what it is that you can start on today, no matter how unhappy or unsatisfied you are with your lower body, to put your legs, hips, butt and thighs program on turbo and really kick-start your results. Plus, the top five key elements that are essential to you changing your lower body and creating shapely, thin, toned legs, hips, butt, and thighs, regardless of your age or body type, and before learning these, I personally struggled with my own lower body, and I’ve certainly seen many women and even men make very little progress because they simply didn’t’ know these critical ground rules.
We’re also going to throw Joey into the deep end, and Joey has kindly agreed to this, haven’t you, Joey?
JOEY
Yikes.
MANDY
And we’re going to tap into his wealth of information and get the inside info on what really works and you know, what’s really just a pile of BS, and you’re going to love this. We’re going to learn Joey’s easy to implement techniques for fixing flat butts and adding more curves through to reducing your legs, hips, butt, and thighs. Throughout the seminar we’re going to share with you and cover – this is something that so many women battle with—and that’s cellulite, and what you can do to reduce it without using creams or pills. So you want to stay on until the end of the seminar and I’m letting you know this now so you don’t miss out on some of these important answers. But before we go any further, for those of you who want to know a bit more about Joey, I want to ask Joey if he can, you know, give us a quick run-down on how he became involved with helping women worldwide make over their lower bodies. Go for it, Joey.
JOEY
Yes, absolutely. First, before I want to share how I came to be the lower body female guru, I want to just elaborate on how Mandy introduced this and what she’s getting at. She and I both understand by having been in this industry for so long that there are many different types of women with many different types of bodies, and while one woman might want to lose a lot of weight and firm up her lower body, there may be another woman who wants to build up and make her lower body more curvaceous, okay? So what we want you to understand is what we’re going to share with you today is going help everybody on both ends of that spectrum and even in between because the principles and the specific examples we’re going to give you are going to clarify the things that need to be done and the differences you need to think about in terms of what type of body you have, what types of improvements you want to make, and then what type of things you need to do to get those improvements for your specific body goals. So I just want to be clear on that and make sure everybody understands that. That’s were Mandy and I are coming from.
This isn’t just one type of improvement for one type of female lower body. This is full spectrum, many different angles, many different problems being addressed, and many different ways to get to your end goal, no matter who you are or how old you are or where you’re starting from. So on that note, I’ll answer the question of how I became the lower body guru, and the summary answer is well, I spend most of my personal time in the gyms from the age of about 13, 14. When I graduated college with a degree in Exercise Physiology and then started my personal training business for people in their homes, I had to create programs that helped people achieve their goals without the typical gym and fitness center equipment, okay? Because most people that I work with, even the most affluent people, did not have full gyms in their homes. They maybe had some things, but the majority of my clients – they had minimal equipment in their homes. So I had to create programs based on minimal equipment, focused on body weight, minimal accessories like a mat, a ball, bands, light dumbbells, and even using things around the house like the couch and the ottoman, exercise ball, pillows, you name it. So because I had to become very proficient in that, I kept working hard at it, and the better I got at it, the more clients I got, and it became this natural way of training for me that I also developed into a way to train men.
So I was working with literally no equipment, training both male and female, but the women were really taking a liking to this because they loved that way of training because it actually kept them out of the gyms and fitness centers and in their homes, and it also gave them a way to stay in shape and maintain their results, whether they were traveling on business, vacation, going to visit family on the road. It didn’t’ matter. They were even able to do some of their workouts at their office while at work.
So over time, I realized I was really onto something, and so I refined my approach and methodology into a very specific way of training for women who wanted to attack their most troublesome problem-areas and trouble-spots, and so what I did over time was I realized I had different types of women coming to me from different starting points wanting to address different problems and reach different goals. So I basically started refining the method of training for these women and the specific things they did for them to get from their own point A to their own point – endpoint. Call it point B, if you want to.
So I turned that into this program, The Ultimate Leg, Hip, Butt, and Thigh Makeover that I realized women around the world will want access to, even though they didn’t have access to me to train them personally in my own local gym or for my high rates. I could still create a program that women who still needed this information to help them, no matter where they were and what price they could afford, and over the years, that’s how I became the Lower Body Guru for Women
MANDY
You can now see for yourself just how passionate Joey is about making a difference and helping women transform their lower bodies. So we’ll get started. There are five big mistakes that women make with their lower body, and the fifth is one of the worst mistakes. We’re going to cover number five later in the webinar, but for now, let’s get started with number one. Joey and I are both pretty fired up about this next point because we can’t stand watching folk being ripped off, and we’ve had some pretty interesting conversations about this via Skype. With so many overwhelming options, and women being bombarded from all directions, you know, with them. It’s hardly surprising that so many people struggle with their efforts to define and sculpt their lower bodies. So Joey, we hear all the time that we shouldn’t give in to all the scams and pills that, you know, claim they’re going to magically fix our lower bodies and get rid of cellulite, and for so many women, that’s easier said than done. You’ve been involved in raising awareness about these scams for years, and feel free to be really straight up with us here. What kind of adverse effects do many of these scams, creams, and pills have? I mean, you know, what are the real risks of using them that the companies aren’t telling us?
JOEY
Well, wow, I mean, I could talk for hours on this stuff alone, but I’m going to get to the real nitty-gritty here. The truth is a lot of these companies present overnight fixes, instantanian solutions to this problem. So let’s call it the average woman who thinks she has cellulite, which is the cause of her lower body problems, okay? So for the masses, most companies will put out a simple fix, which is a pill or a cream or a lotion or some kind of body wrap or whatever you want to categorize it as or call it. They present it as something that you buy, you use, and the problem is fixed, okay? What they’re trying to tell you is hey, you don’t have to do anything. Just buy this, put it on, and your problem’s going to be fixed, okay? What they don’t tell you is that we understand that you’re desperate, you’re hopeless, and you’re willing to spend another $50 or $100 or $150 on something that might work. And they also know, but they don’t tell you this, that they know that you’re going to be – if it doesn’t work for you, which is the most likely answer—that you’re going to be too embarrassed or upset to ask for your money back through their proper channels, or they know that you’re not going to know the proper channels to file a formal complaint about or they know that you’re not – you don’t have the time to go looking for the way to file the complaint or ask for refunds through the proper channels, five, six, seven, eight times. So they know they’re going to get your money, and nine out of ten women are going to give up on trying to get their money back or file a complaint, and so in the long run, they’re going to make money, and then before word gets out that their product is garbage they’ve already made many, many millions on many, many unsuspecting women.
Okay, so that’s the main risk. The main risk is that you’re going to waste money on something that is not intended to work in the first place. It’s simply a really, really clever well-planned marketing scheme set into motion because these companies have many loopholes and they have a lot of flexibility in terms of the way they present their product and market it to draw people in to get them to spend money, and then to let everything else pan out in the end. So they’re not selling you the real solution. They’re just selling you hope and desperation in a package.
MANDY
No, and also, people need to realize as well that in these infomercials, you know, they’re using awesome, hot-looking women. These women actually, they train properly. You know what I mean? Like they’re using techniques sort of like Joey suggests and stuff like that to achieve their bodies. They’re not using these creams and pills.
JOEY
No, I’m going to be honest with you here, and this is – I didn’t even think of sharing this, but it’s coming up, so I’m going to share it. I have some ideas of products that actually will help women, but they are actual exercise products, okay? I know who to go to in these companies, the people that do new product evaluations and the people who decide if they want to take on an invention and partner with the creator to market a product, okay? And I’ll be completely honest with you. A lot of these companies, they don’t want anything that’s legitimate, okay? They want things that are cheap, simple, not effective, but are still within guidelines of current, modern-day marketing that allow them to get away with the message they’re presenting and take in a certain amount of money for the number of products that are going to be sold. So I can tell you that firsthand, these companies have certain guidelines that they produce products with that are ruling out like the true and effective things that would allow women to get some kind of results, let alone full results, and I’m telling you that firsthand because I’m in contact with a lot of people in that industry for the reason of trying to change it, and it’s not easy. I have a few leads and a few relationships that may eventually lead to that, but the truth is if they spend too much money on creating something that does work, they’re afraid of being able to recoup their investment in that product. So it’s a very fine line, and so this is not just BS that Mandy and I are feeding you. This is real stuff from behind the lines, in the trenches here.
MANDY
Yeah, yeah, we can go on with this for ages and ages about this, but I’ve got so many more questions that I’m dying to ask you that people have written in, so I better move on because I’m sure everyone’s on the edge of their seat, thinking “Come on, ask my question, ask my question.” Now, Joey, many women and men, too, and this is a biggie, feel that once they get to a certain age that there’s no point in trying or that nothing will work. You know, it’s sort of too late for them when it comes to their lower bodies. Can you explain to what affect age does have in relation to transforming our lower bodies and what they can do to turn the aging process around in regards to like firming, lifting, and shaping their butt, legs, hips, and thighs?
JOEY
Definitely. You know, when we talk about age and the female, you know, they’re a woman who is 40 wants to know something different than the woman who is 20, and the woman who’s 60 wants to know something different than the woman who is 40, and likewise, on and on, okay? The answer for all those women is this: If you’re still alive, you can still improve your body, and I’m going to tell you – I’m going to go to the absolute, ultimate example. I’ve worked with women in their 80’s who have improved their bodies by doing the proper exercises, okay? So now, it doesn’t matter if you’re coming at me at 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20. If I can help a woman in her 80’s and women in their 80’s can do the proper things to improve her physical fitness and her body and her appearance and how she feels about herself, then it doesn’t matter what age you are, okay? Because age has no limits if you look at it that way. Okay, it’s more a matter of doing the proper things to get the improvements you’re looking for.
Okay, now here’s the key. What is it about a woman who’s in her 80’s that could still get results that proves all of this? The thing is a woman who’s in her 80’s who can do the proper exercises still has functional muscle and physiology, okay? And her physiology will react to an exercise program that stimulates her physiology. So if she has certain – let’s say she has certain muscle structure, and she starts working that muscle structure in a way that starts producing muscle density and firmness and muscle tone and muscle strength. She’s going to get more firmly toned, shapely and strong in the places that she wants to, and if she is a woman who needs to lose some weight in the process, the simple nature of her sticking to a routine that is giving her results is also going to burn off body fat over the weeks, months, and years if she’s not eating too much.
So age doesn’t matter. It’s a matter of number one, being alive, and number two’s simply fitting your physiology with the proper stimulus to get the changes you’re looking for. Okay, so have I met 70 and 80 year old women who tried working out in a gym, in a fitness center, on a weights and machines type program who did not find success? Yes, I have, and what’s the reason? Well, there are various versions of the reason, but in short, weights and machines don’t work for everybody, okay? They can actually be uncomfortable to a lot of women, let alone men, and make them want to turn away from it and not do it anymore, and so in their head, that didn’t work for them. That didn’t feel good to them. It wasn’t the right solution for them. Some people actually get hurt in the gyms. It’s not a secret. That’s why so many physical therapy clinics and chiropractors set up shop in the biggest health clubs and fitness centers because they know people are going to be getting hurt there. It’s a great source of business. It’s a great source of business. Okay, but in essence, in short, if you’re alive, you can get the results, but you can only get those results by following the program that is suited to your needs and you abilities and not doing something that everybody thinks you’re supposed to be doing. Does that make sense, Mandy?
MANDY
Definitely, and I think that people that are attending this webinar today need to hear that. There are wonderful results they can achieve from their programs if they apply the right program to their routine. I think they’ll learn a lot more about this as we go through today. They’ll get some awesome advice from you.
JOEY
Yeah, the key about age is the older you get, the – and the less you do, the more you allow the aging process to let you get old, okay? So it’s up to the person to participate in activities that combat and fight the natural aging process, okay? So if you perform activities which strengthen your balance, your bone density, your muscle awareness, your strengths, your tone, your muscle density, you know, fill in the blank, whatever you want to. If you participate in the proper activities that gently allow you to make progress toward maintaining your independence, then you’re going to see results. Okay, and that’s where the myth of the aging factor gets wiped out, okay? Age doesn’t matter. It’s a matter of participating in the right activities that are geared toward your capabilities and then they don’t hurt you in the process.
MANDY
Well, thinking of myths, I’m going to bring this one up, and I hope you don’t mind if we move on to the next question. I’ve got so many questions for you today, Joey, it’s not funny.
JOEY
Bring them on, bring them on. I’m ready.
MANDY
Okay, there’s so many women that are really terrified that performing any kind of resistance training will cause their lower bodies to become bulkier, so you know, what’s your response to this, and how does resistance training work towards generating terrific results for your lower body rather than working against them like so many people think?
JOEY
Now, this is an awesome question, and again, I can spend two or three hours on this alone, but the word resistance training carries a stereotype to it, and that stereotype is people automatically think of weights and machines as resistance training, okay, which is not the case. You can resistance train against your own body, gravity, resistance bands, an exercise ball, medicine ball, your couch, an ottoman, whatever. Resistance training doesn’t have to be with weights and machines, okay?
So let’s take a step back here. In certain cases, it is true that resistance training does cause women to bulk up, okay? If that resistance training is defined by a woman going in the gym and lifting weights and doing machines on your average typical program that a trainer’s going to prescribe in a health club, okay? And I know this because I’ve seen it a million times over the last 25 years, okay? I’ve even had personal, close friends go through it and them come to me in tears, and they’re lower body is twice the size of when they started, and they’re willing to listen to me, right? Because if I’m their friend, I’m not a guru. I’m just their friend, right? So they’re going to go find somebody else, and then later, they’ll come crying to me saying, “Okay, you were right. I didn’t have to do that. Can you help me?”
And now granted, look, the truth is certain women have certain genetic potentials, okay? I’ve had girlfriends, female friends who have had very athletic bodies, and their bodies have reacted so quickly and so incredibly to weights and machines in a way that they did not want to, okay? They just, like their muscle density tripled overnight, literally, and that’s not what they wanted, okay? And then there are women who do not have that kind of genetic potential. They have a much less – they have a much more subtle genetic potential, okay? And they can get away with trying some – a generic program and not being pushed over the edge with it, okay? It doesn’t mean it’s the right program for them.
What I’m saying is a typical resistance training program defined by weights and machines actually can bulk up certain women, okay? But there’s a big myth out there being portrayed in the media that oh, no, weights and machines won’t bulk you up no matter what, okay? You have to be doing the right weights and reps and such, then that’s really not the case. The true case is it doesn’t matter what reps and sets you do and the intensity. If your genetic potential is going to make your muscle density multiply by getting on a weights and machines type program, it’s going to happen, and so there are certain women who will bulk up with typical weights and machines type training, regardless of what the trainer prescribes, okay? So that will happen.
But that doesn’t have to happen. Even those women can get on a body weight-focused program, you know, using some accessories like a ball and a band, and maybe even once in a while, hit the gym for a weights and machines workout if it’s structured properly as part of their overall program and still get the results that they’re actually aiming for, personally, and not what some generic trainer or health club is trying to prescribe to them. Does that make sense?
MANDY
Oh, definitely… I’ll move onto the next question if that’s okay because we’ve got a lot to go through.
