This past couple of weeks have kind of gone like this…
Train, Work, Cry (re: Arnie), Cuddle / Play with Louie, Work, Cry, Walk Louie, Work, Study, Cry, play with Louie…
I celebrated my 45th Birthday… the first b’day I’ve had in 12 or so years without Arnie.
My parents came to stay, which was awesome, always love having them here.
I injured my pelvis trying to prevent my nephew and niece from hurting themselves. Found myself walking around sucking in my breath from the pain.
Still very teary eyed about Arnie… Seeing Louie so devastated without his brother is heart breaking.
It was my work – I love my work, love my clients to bits, absolutely love them – and Louie (and my hubby) that’s kept me going of late. 🙂
So what’s happening with my training, if my pelvis is out of whack?
A lot more than you think…
Did you think I was quitting? Hell no! 🙂
All of this can be figured out… I’ll explain how.
I took nearly a week off exercising (just did stretches so I wouldn’t seize up). So my “exercise” during that time was walking Louie.
And I’m now gradually training again and just modifying the Ultimate YOU Dream Body Program according to what my pelvis and lower back can handle on the day.
…Safety first. Which equals a faster recovery.
I had a few days where my nutrition was a little crazy due to my birthday… But it wasn’t too over the top, but certainly not what I would normally have.
My sister bought over a lovely white chocolate birthday cake (enough for the six of us to share) and my nephew and niece decorated it with their favourite lollies. 🙂
I’ve never tried, heard or seen red licorice with white chocolate in it before. I never go down the lolly aisle in the supermarket. My nephew rolls his eyes at me like I’m from outa space for not knowing about it. 🙂 LOL… “you don’t know about this Aunty Mandy, they’re yummy?!”
I’m pretty lucky that I know how to apply protein, carbs and fat, their combinations, and the timing of them, even when I do get a little off track. So that I can still ramp up my metabolism and get results.

AND knowing how to do this is important… why?
I guess most people would just use this as a reason to “fall off the wagon” completely.
But I don’t feel like that. I just see it as a challenge.
This is life, b’days happen. Life happens, injuries happen.
My advice? Don’t quit!
Just keep continuing on. And getting closer to your goals.
I am super excited that my shoulder training is improving.
Leg and shoulder training is my favourite. Woohoo!
As you know I have a frozen shoulder, caused from severe trauma / injury trying to stop Arnie and Louie from getting bitten by a snake.
What You may not be aware of though is…
When I was much younger I had shoulders that sloped down. Like Ski slopes! 🙂 Well nearly!
My bra straps would slip off them, handbags would fall on the floor because I couldn’t get them to stay on my shoulders.
I was a big fan of the late 80’s when shoulder pads were in 🙂 because I needed them back then. Mind you, my big hair matched the big shoulder pads! 🙂
Also back then I carried a lot more bodyfat, so I had huge boobs. My shoulders struggled to support my very unsexy huge support bras. It drove me nuts. And it was painful.
So when I first got into weight training I became an addict of Barbell Upright Rows and Dumbbell Shoulder Presses and other shoulder exercises. And built my shoulders up quickly using various techniques.
My shoulders since then have been my pride and joy, and so having a frozen shoulder and suffering from limited movement, had me thinking “oh no! I don’t want to lose my shoulders!”.
One of my fav shoulder exercises is a shoulder pike press.
Since injuring my shoulder I haven’t been able to perform them. Today, yes today!, I created a modified version for myself of the shoulder pike press. And I performed 3 sets of them!
This may seem silly to you… But one of the things about staying on track is finding and implementing things that encourage you. That make you feel awesome about yourself and your training efforts…
Rather than getting down or negative about the things that may not be as perfect as you’d like them to be.
Life doesn’t always go to plan. I used to get frustrated with that. And sometimes I still do. But the more I learn about myself the more I realise there’s no point worrying about it. Instead I pick out the good parts – be thankful and grateful for those, learn from the “s–t hitting the fan” stuff, and know that tomorrow is another day…
I can make a fresh start and make that day as awesome as I choose too.
