It is too hard to get into awesome shape?
This comment is about as common as sliced bread. We brush it off and accept it. But what does it really mean?
You’ll see where I’m going with this in a moment and how it relates to the title of this blog post.
Let me ask you this…
Why do you think it’s too hard? I’m not asking this because I’m being condescending… far from it. I’m genuinely interested.
Here’s some every day examples, that you’ve shared with me in VFT’s survey, of why you think it’s simply not achievable to get into awesome shape.
* I never know what I’m doing, it’s too complicated
* No one gets “me”. I’m not the same as other people, I have a different body type, body fat just doesn’t fall off me like it does others
* Everyone who looks amazing takes drugs
*I don’t have any time
* I’m exercising but I’m not getting results
*I don’t know what exercises to perform
*I don’t know what food to eat
*I can never follow a program through
*I get distracted easily and other things in life crop up
*I’m stressed out all the time and when I’m stressed I don’t care about exercising or looking after my health
*I’ve been ripped off by gimmicks
*I want something that works in a couple of weeks
*Nothing ever works
*I’m sick of false promises and lame advice
*I’m tired of feeling like I’ve failed, I’d rather just not bother trying again
Think about this for a moment…
If there were no limits what so ever, if none of this got in the way, if this wasn’t the case, what would you do?
The majority of people I say this to – because I’m trying to figure out why they’re so fearful, I want them to succeed, I don’t want them to hold themselves back …
…If I could offer this to you right now, if I could help you find a way to knock these doubts on the head so they were no longer on the table, would you move forward OR would you still be fearful of trying.
They will then share more reasons, deeper underlying reasons, all of which are based on fear. They’re not just a little scared, they’re fear stricken.
Here’s some examples… let me know if you see yourself here.
*If I get into great shape, my friends will hate me
*If I start exercising and eating healthy, it will piss other people off
*People will think I’m full of myself, if I start appreciating myself and taking care of myself by getting into great shape
*If I have to make changes to my current lifestyle I’ll be miserable – even though I’m really unhappy now… I worry about having to make sacrifices and what the repercussions will be from that.
As you can see, You’re not the only one who feels like this. Heck, I’ve been through this myself.
So consider the following…
Why would your friends hate you? Even if they did, that would be their issue. You’d be so busy enjoying the benefits of being in great shape and living your life, it’d be the last thing on your mind, you may even inspire them to do so as well.
YOU know the awesome benefits of consuming healthy food, and that healthy food these days is really, really yummy! Are you going to allow someone else to dictate or hold your health ransom because there’s a chance they may not like you eating healthy food. This is your life. You only get once chance at this.
People that think you’re “up yourself, or full of yourself” seeing your new found confidence, happiness, invigorating zest for life… sure they might say that, but it’ll only be because of their own insecurities. That’s something they need to fix. It’s not your burden to carry for them. It’s your job to take care of you, your health and your quality of life.
Getting into awesome shape isn’t about making yourself miserable. If you have been doing that in the past, then you’re doing it wrong. You make changes, yes for sure, but all you’re doing is swapping things around to create a life that’s fun, inspiring, and you get to reduce body fat, have sexy lean muscle and a way better outlook on life.
If you’re doing something negative, that’s making you feel bleak and unhopeful, that’s bringing you down, making you feel depressed… For example if that thing is sitting on the couch and eating junk food and watching negative tv shows… swapping it for 30 mins of exercise, with a yummy healthy treat, and watching something that makes you happy inside – is going to get you closer to your goals and bring more to your life isn’t it?
Sometimes because we spend so much time trying to please or not offend others, we tell ourselves that’s ok – because allowing ourselves to be miserable makes others happy. Yet what we’re really doing is sacrificing our own “happiness”. And you getting into shape isn’t going to ruin everyone’s life. It will improve your own and you’ll be leading by example.
